Just the Two of Them: An Intimate Vow Ceremony on Film | Dũng & Khánh

This was a first for us. In all our years behind the camera, it was the first time we set out to document an entire vow ceremony on film alone, one hundred percent, with no digital safety net. It was a genuine challenge. A ceremony like this moves quickly, and none of it can be asked to happen twice.

Dũng and Khánh exchanged their vows on a grey, overcast afternoon, with only the occasional thread of sunlight slipping through the heavy clouds. It was never going to be flawless weather, and it did not need to be. None of it touched the love and the sincerity the two of them held for each other.

On film, every moment is kept the plain, natural way. There is no technology stepping in between, only the light, the smiles, the glances they traded, and a few tears of happiness. Working on film makes you slow down and pay attention, because each frame asks for time and care. Every roll is its own small adventure, followed by the nervous wait to see how it turned out.

We could not check the back of a screen on the day. But when the film came home from the lab, all of us, Khánh and Dũng included, were surprised and quietly moved by how alive those moments felt. It is a special way to hold onto the memory of a love that is simple, and deep.
