Phuong Anh & Thai: A Misty Pine Forest Pre-Wedding & Engagement Shoot in Da Lat

Some pre-wedding shoots give you one kind of light. This one gave us two of the best. We spent a December day in Da Lat with Phuong Anh and Thai, opening with a misty sunrise in the pine forest and closing with a rare, glowing sunset over Tuyen Lam Lake. In between there were old villas, wild grass fields and a vintage car, all the things that make Da Lat the most romantic place in Vietnam for an engagement session.

A misty sunrise in the pine forest

We started before the town was awake. Da Lat's pine forests hold the cold of the night well into the morning, and as the first light came through the trees it lit up the mist hanging between the trunks. Phuong Anh and Thai walked into it, and for a while it felt like they had the whole highland to themselves.

The garden and the old villa

From the forest we moved to one of Da Lat's old French-era villas, all stone fountains, climbing greenery and quiet garden corners. It is the kind of place that makes a pre-wedding shoot feel timeless, a little slower, a little more elegant.

A vintage drive by the lake

A classic cream convertible was waiting by the water. There is something about an old car and an open road in Da Lat that turns an engagement shoot into a story, and these two leaned right into it.

Golden hour in the wild grass

As the afternoon softened, the tall wild grass around the lake caught the low sun and turned to gold. This is our favourite light to shoot in, warm, backlit and forgiving, and it wrapped around the two of them beautifully.

A rare sunset over Tuyen Lam Lake

Then the sky did something we do not see often. The sunset over Tuyen Lam Lake burned pink and orange across the water, and we made the most of every minute of it, silhouettes on the shore, a dance in the shallows, and a handful of sparklers as the colour faded. A perfect end to the day.
