An & Phuong: A Three-Location Da Lat Pre-Wedding & Engagement Shoot, from Misty Suoi Tia to the Cau Dat Tea Hills

Da Lat is the most romantic town in Vietnam, and one location is rarely enough to capture it. For An and Phuong's pre-wedding and engagement shoot we chose three very different places, each with its own light and mood, and let their story move through them from the first mist of sunrise to the last glow of sunset. Here is how the day unfolded.

Suoi Tia: a fairytale sunrise on the lake

We began before dawn at Suoi Tia, a quiet arm of Tuyen Lam Lake tucked into the pine forest. At first light it may be the most poetic, fairytale corner of Da Lat: a small stretch of water ringed by pines, with layers of mist floating just above the surface. We rowed An and Phuong out in a little wooden boat and let the morning do the rest, the sun breaking through the fog, the water perfectly still, and the pines mirrored all around them.

Dinh 3: retro romance at Bao Dai's summer palace

By late morning we moved to Dinh 3, the summer palace of Vietnam's last emperor, Bao Dai. Its French-influenced architecture, warm interiors and calm, timeless light make it a favourite for couples who love a retro, softly romantic vibe. From the green shuttered doors and the formal rose gardens to the sunlit rooms and arched hallways, every corner felt like a set built for a love story from another era.

Cau Dat tea hills: chasing the Da Lat sunset

We saved the tea hills of Cau Dat for the end of the day. Famous for the tall windmills that stand over endless rows of tea, it is one of the most open, free-feeling landscapes around Da Lat, and one of the very best places to watch the sun go down. As the sky turned gold and then a moody grey, An and Phuong wandered the hills, and we made the kind of wide, cinematic frames this place was made for.

Planning a multi-location pre-wedding in Da Lat

A three-location day like this one is very doable in Da Lat, but timing is everything. Start at Suoi Tia for sunrise, when the mist is at its most magical and the light is soft; the fog usually lifts within an hour or two. Spend the harsh midday hours somewhere sheltered with beautiful indoor light, like Dinh 3. Then finish in the west at Cau Dat for sunset. Build in travel time between locations, bring a change of shoes for wet grass, and be ready for Da Lat's fast-changing highland weather. More often than not, it turns into the best part of the photos.

An and Phuong, thank you for trusting us with your morning-to-night Da Lat adventure. We loved every location with you.
