Some weddings are loud and enormous. David and Thảo’s was the opposite, and all the more beautiful for it. Just thirty guests, a stretch of golden sand at Meliá Hồ Tràm, and a late-afternoon sun turning everything the colour of honey. From the first frame to the last, it felt less like an event and more like a gathering of the people who love them most.

Hồ Tràm sits about two hours south-east of Ho Chi Minh City, close enough to reach easily, far enough to feel like a true escape. The coastline here is calmer and less crowded than Vietnam’s better-known beach towns, which is exactly why couples who want intimacy keep choosing it.
Meliá Hồ Tràm opens straight onto a wide, quiet beach, so the ceremony, the portraits and the celebration all happen a few barefoot steps from one another. For overseas couples, that simplicity is a gift: land, settle in, and marry by the sea without the logistics ever swallowing the romance.
There’s a particular magic to a small wedding, and David and Thảo’s had it in full. With only thirty guests, everyone was in it, the laughter carried, the toasts felt personal, and the blessings came from people who genuinely know the couple.
As photographers, this is the kind of day we love most. We don’t stage it. We move quietly through it and let the real moments find us: a mother’s eyes filling during the vows, a friend’s unguarded laugh, two people forgetting anyone else is watching.

As they stood facing each other, the whole beach seemed to go still.
“From the moment I met you, I knew my life would never be the same again. I vow to love you, to grow old with you, and to be there for you throughout all the seasons of life.”
, David
And Thảo answered, through her tears:
“Out of eight billion people on earth, I was lucky enough to meet my true soulmate. I choose you every day, every moment.”
, Thảo

We timed the ceremony for the last hours of daylight, and Hồ Tràm rewarded us. As the sun dropped toward the horizon, the whole beach glowed, warm, soft, almost cinematic. It’s the light every couple hopes for and few actually get, and here it arrived right on cue, wrapping David and Thảo in gold as they said their vows with the ocean behind them.
Weddings like this remind us why we do what we do. You can plan the location, the timing, the light, but the feeling arrives on its own, carried in on the tide with everyone you love around you.
