The Best Time of Year for a Wedding or Pre-Wedding in Vietnam

One of the first questions overseas couples ask us is simple: when is the best time of year for a wedding or pre-wedding shoot in Vietnam? The honest answer is that Vietnam is long and narrow, with three different climates, so the best month depends entirely on where you want to be. Here is a clear, region-by-region guide from photographers who chase the light here all year round.

The short answer

For most of Vietnam, the sweet spot is the dry season, roughly November to April. Skies are clearer, light is softer, and rain is far less likely to interrupt your day. If you can only remember one thing, aim for those months. But the country rewards couples who plan by region, so let's go from south to north.

Southern Vietnam and the islands (Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc, Ho Tram)

The south has two seasons: dry (December to April) and wet (May to October). For a beach wedding in Phu Quoc or on the southern coast, the dry season brings warm 25 to 30 degree days and reliable sunshine. Even in the green season the rain often falls in short afternoon bursts, so mornings can still be beautiful. This is the region for palm trees, golden sand and long, glowing sunsets.

Central Vietnam (Da Nang, Hoi An, Nha Trang, Phu Yen)

The centre runs on a slightly different clock. The best months here are usually February to August, with the wettest period from roughly September to December. Hoi An is loveliest from February to April, when the old town is mild and the flowers bloom. Nha Trang and Phu Yen, with their wild, unspoiled coastlines, shine in the dry early-year and summer months, perfect for sunrise by the sea.

The highlands (Da Lat and Mang Den)

The cool highland towns are the exception that couples fall in love with. Da Lat stays gentle and spring-like all year, so there is no truly bad month, but the dry season (November to April) is the most reliable for clear skies and the famous sea of clouds at dawn. The green season brings soft mist that film photography adores. Mang Den, Da Lat's quieter, greener neighbour, is wonderful for couples who want pine forests and calm.

A quick month-by-month cheat sheet

  • December to April: the safest all-round window. Great for the south, the islands, Da Lat and the central coast.
  • February to April: arguably the prettiest overall, mild and blooming almost everywhere.
  • May to August: hot in the south but excellent for central Vietnam (Hoi An, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Yen).
  • September to November: best avoided on the central coast (its rainy months), but the south and highlands are often fine.

A photographer's tips, whatever the month

  • Golden hour beats the calendar. Sunrise and the last hour before sunset give the most flattering light in every season. We plan your timeline around it.
  • Book early. The dry season fills up months ahead, and we take only a limited number of couples each month.
  • Embrace the green season. Mist and soft light can be magical, especially in Da Lat and on film. A little flexibility on the day often pays off.
