Cương & My: A Flower-Forest Pre-Wedding at The Florest, Da Lat

Some locations you have to travel for, and The Florest is one of them. You leave the centre of Da Lat, wind down through a long ribbon of pine forest, and then the trees open onto a valley of flowers that seems to run on forever. This is where Cương and My spent their morning, and a flower-forest pre-wedding turned out to be one of the softest, most romantic shoots we have photographed in the highlands.

A real flower forest hidden in the pines

The Florest, known in Vietnamese as Hoa Trong Rừng, literally "flowers in the forest", is a flower garden in Tà Nung commune on the edge of Da Lat. It spans around 60 hectares, which makes it one of the largest flower gardens in the city, and the whole thing is tucked inside the pine hills rather than sitting out in the open. The signature view is this one: a long avenue of tall, colourful flower rows leading the eye straight back into a wall of pine trees. For a couple, it is the kind of backdrop you cannot build in a studio.

Getting there: through the pine forest to Tà Nung

From central Da Lat it is roughly a 30 to 45 minute drive out toward Tà Nung, and the last stretch is about six kilometres of quiet road threading through the pine forest before you reach the gardens. We always tell couples to treat the drive as part of the shoot day, not a chore: the light through the pines on the way in is beautiful, and arriving a little early means you beat both the midday sun and the crowds. Comfortable shoes help too, because the flower paths are soft underfoot and a bit uneven in places.

Why a flower forest is made for pre-wedding, couple and engagement photos

Flowers do something for a couple that almost nothing else does. They add colour, softness and a sense of abundance to every frame, and they give the two of you something to do with your hands, your eyes and your feet. As a pre-wedding photographer in Da Lat, The Florest is high on our list precisely because it works for every kind of session: a formal pre-wedding in a gown and suit, a relaxed couple photoshoot, or an engagement photoshoot in Da Lat in something you would actually wear on a date. The flowers carry the picture, so you can simply be together.

Cương & My's morning among the dahlias and roses

We started Cương and My in the dahlia and rose fields, where the blooms come up to the waist and the colour is at its richest. The plan was loose on purpose. We gave a little direction, a walk here, a pause to look at each other there, and then let them talk and laugh their way through the rows. The best frames came from the in-between moments: My closing her eyes in the morning sun, Cương leaning in to say something only she could hear, the two of them wrapped up in a quiet world of petals with the misty hills behind.

Beyond the flowers: meadows, pine light and playful moments

One of the things we love about The Florest is that it is not only flower beds. Around the gardens there are open grassy meadows and stands of old pine, so a single visit gives you several completely different looks without moving the car. We took Cương and My out onto the grass to lie back, be silly and catch their breath, then into the softer light at the tree line. That variety is why we often pair it with other spots nearby for couples who want a fuller day, the way we did on this three-location Da Lat pre-wedding.

The best time to shoot at The Florest

Two things decide how a Florest shoot looks: the season and the hour. Da Lat's cool dry months, from just after the January New Year through to around May, tend to give the clearest mornings and the most reliable blooms, though the gardens keep different flowers going through much of the year. For the light, go early. We aim to be shooting soon after the gardens open, while the sun is still low and warm and the beds are not yet busy; by late morning the light turns harsh and the paths fill up. If you can, build your day around that first golden hour and keep one outfit you can move, kneel and walk in. Planning your own flower-forest pre-wedding or engagement

If a valley of flowers wrapped in pine forest is the mood you have been dreaming of, The Florest delivers it in a way few places in Vietnam can, and it pairs beautifully with the misty hills and lakes that make Da Lat such a favourite for couples. Come early, wear something you can move in, and leave a little room in the morning for the light to do its work.
