Vietnam might be the most underrated country in the world for pre-wedding and engagement photos. In one compact country you get misty pine highlands, tropical islands, ancient lantern-lit towns, wild empty coastlines and buzzing cities, most of them a short flight or drive apart. These are the ten places we love most and have actually shot at, not a generic list, so every photo here is our own work. One tip before you choose: match your location to your season, because Vietnam's weather is very regional. The south and islands are best from roughly November to April, while the central coast shines from February to August.
1. Da Lat, misty pine lakes and highland romance
If Vietnam has a spiritual home for pre-wedding photos, it is Da Lat. Cool mountain air, endless pine forests, mirror-still lakes like Tuyen Lam and Suoi Tia, old French villas and the Cau Dat tea hills all sit within a short drive of each other, so you can shoot three completely different looks in a single day. Hoi An's UNESCO old town is pure romance: mustard-yellow walls, silk lanterns, the Japanese Covered Bridge and quiet lantern-lit lanes at dusk. 3. Phu Quoc, tropical island sunsets
Vietnam's largest island is the tropical, beachy pick: palm-lined shores, warm turquoise water and some of the most beautiful sunsets in the country. 4. Da Nang, long beaches and dramatic coastline
Da Nang pairs wide, clean beaches like My Khe with the Son Tra peninsula, the Marble Mountains and striking modern bridges. It is easy to reach, with one of Vietnam's busiest international airports, and works beautifully for a relaxed, cinematic coastal session. 5. Nha Trang and Cam Ranh, resort beaches and blue water
This stretch of the south-central coast is all turquoise bays, long sandy beaches and world-class resorts, a natural fit for a bright, breezy beach shoot or a destination celebration. 6. Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), urban energy and French colonial style
For couples who love the city, Saigon delivers: French-colonial architecture, the Fine Arts Museum, leafy boulevards, rooftop skylines and the modern bridges of Thu Thiem.
